L'Ange Volant
A haven of Italian joy and beauty on the outskirts of Paris
In 1927, the famous Italian architect Gio Ponti designed the country house L’Ange Volant (“the Flying Angel”) in a beautiful green setting on the outskirts of Paris, for the Bouilhet family, directors of the silversmith company Christofle. Imagined as a whole, from the front doorknob to the garden, this house is the Italian architect’s only construction in France.
In 2019, Sophie Bouilhet-Dumas et Marie Bouilhet undertook major restoration work with the support of architects Mathieu Barroux and Mariangela Zanzotto. Today, L’Ange Volant offers a real immersion into Gio Ponti’s world, where bespoke furniture designed by the Italian architect lives harmoniously side by side with more recent objets d’art.
Located 20 minutes away from central Paris, this unique home welcomes cultural projects and opens its doors to art and design lovers. Travellers looking for a peaceful and intimate place will enjoy an unforgettable experience in an elegant and relaxing atmosphere.

A peaceful and welcoming place
The neoclassical-inspired façade of L’Ange Volant is surrounded by magnificent trees that preserve intimacy. On the other side, a terrace overlooks the vast garden, promising joyful moments by the swimming pool during the warm season.
Fully exposed to sunlight, the double-height living room is the true heart of the entire house. Its trompe l’oeil ceiling, envisaged by the architect as a large theatrical canopy, brings a joyful Mediterranean touch. This vast space opens onto the adjacent fireplace corner, for more intimate conversations in small groups.
The original walnut furniture combined with the beautiful soft tones of velvet fit harmoniously with the contemporary furniture.

Visiting & tours
A Gio Ponti art historian can welcome you and small groups for an in-depth tour of L’Ange Volant. She will unveil pieces specially designed by the architect for the Bouilhet-Christofle family.
During her curatorial work for the first Gio Ponti retrospective at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (MAD) at Paris in 2018 and the restoration work in 2019, Sophie Bouilhet-Dumas complied a unique collection on the work of the Italian architect and L’Ange Volant (drawings, correspondence, blueprints, photographs, books and periodicals). Carefully catalogued and preserved, this documentation is available to art historians and researchers and can be consulted by appointment. Part of this archive is also intended to be used and displayed in museum exhibitions.
